Who is Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark?
Paige Bueckers had the spotlight on her well before she walked onto UConn’s Storrs campus.
The 22-year-old guard joined the Huskies program as the top ranked recruit in 2020 and has since solidified herself as one of the greatest to don the UConn threads.
Bueckers is making another run in the NCAA Tournament, as the No. 3 Huskies enter an Elite Eight matchup with No. 1 USC. She will return next season as a redshirt senior and likely enter the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Here’s everything to know about Bueckers, including where she’s from and who her family is.
The UConn star hails from Hopkins, Minnesota, which is just west of Minneapolis. She went to Hopkins High School, joining the varsity team as an eighth grader.
Bueckers dominated high school hoops there, winning three Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year awards while also being the nation’s top high school recruit in 2020, according to ESPN.
She outranked Angel Reese (No. 2), Cameron Brink (No. 3), Caitlin Clark (No. 4) and Kamila Cardoso (No. 5).
Bueckers averaged 21 points, 9.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 steals per game in her senior season, winning 2019-20 Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year and the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Her team went 30-0 before the season was cut short due to the pandemic.
Bueckers doesn’t hail from a super-athletic family with a history of college and pro athletes. With her career at UConn, she has distinguished herself as by far the best in her household.
She’s the daughter of Bob Bueckers and Amy Fuller. Fuller was a member of the cross country and track and field teams at the University of St. Thomas, according to UConn’s athletics website.
Bueckers also has three siblings: brothers Ryan and Drew and sister Lauren.
