- Giants QB Daniel Jones suffered a knee injury while playing against the Las Vegas Raiders
- Jones completed 4 of 9 pass attempts for a total of 25 yards before leaving the game
- Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie, filled in for him while he was away
New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a knee injury while playing against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Rookie Tommy Devito called in for his position.
Jones injured his knee earlier in the second quarter of the team’s game against the Raiders. After a play, he put pressure on his leg, making his knee appear to give way. As the medical team assesses Jones, Tommy Devito, the backup, will take over since Tyrod Taylor is also sidelined. With a score of 7-0, the Raiders are now ahead.
Jones showed some movement as he unassisted got up and went to the locker room for additional medical evaluation, though. After missing the previous three games due to a neck injury, Jones had just returned to the club.
Regretfully, his reappearance was brief. Raiders Maxx Crosby sacked Jones in Las Vegas on the last play of the first quarter. He appeared to be uncomfortable as a result.
Then, on the opening play of the second quarter, Jones took a few backward steps in a dropback motion before his right knee gave way and he collapsed.
Jones completed 4 of 9 pass attempts for a total of 25 yards before leaving the game. Additionally, he gained nine yards on two ball carries. Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie, filled in for him while he was away.
Jones inked a four-year, $160 million extension this summer, and he is presently in the first year of the deal. Regretfully, for him, the season has not gone as planned. He missed three weeks in a row after suffering a neck injury in the Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins. That cleared him to go back only last Sunday.
Throughout his first four NFL seasons, Daniel Jones has shown signs of promise. Nevertheless, a mix of turnovers and injuries has impeded his progress. It is especially important as Jones enters the 2023 campaign because the Giants want to know if he can be the franchise quarterback going forward.
